SS304 Butterfly Handle Ball Valve

The 2 PC Stainless Steel Ball Valve (Flanged End) SS 304 is a quarter-turn shut-off valve built around a two-piece SS 304 body, joined by high-tensile bolts and sealed with a PTFE body gasket. Splitting the body into two parts gives access to the ball, seats and stem for inspection and replacement during maintenance, without the added cost of a three-piece body. It is offered in Class 150 and Class 300 from 1/2" to 4" (DN15 to DN100).

Inside, a solid SS 304 ball sits between two PTFE seats, giving a bubble-tight seal with minimal operating torque. The stem is sealed with a PTFE gland packing system that can be re-tightened through the gland nut, extending the valve's working life well beyond standard packing arrangements. A blow-out-proof stem design keeps the stem captured inside the body even under full line pressure, which is a key safety feature for gas and steam service.

Flanged ends drilled as per ASME B16.5 make this valve a drop-in replacement for existing flanged pipelines, and the ISO 5211 mounting pad on top of the body means it can be converted from manual (lever-operated) to pneumatic or electric actuation at any point in its service life, with no separate valve body or adapter kit required.

Working with chlorides or marine duty? See the SS 316 2 PC flanged ball valve. Want to service the valve without disturbing the pipework? See the SS 304 3 PC flanged ball valve. For non-corrosive lines at a lower cost, see the WCB 2 PC flanged ball valve.

Key Benefits

  • Easy to service: the two-piece body opens for replacement of seats, gland packing and gasket
  • Corrosion resistant: SS 304 construction handles water, mild chemicals and outdoor exposure without rusting
  • Class 150 and Class 300: flanged ends to ASME B16.5 for a wide range of pipeline pressures
  • Low maintenance: PTFE seats and gland packing reduce friction and extend seal life
  • Automation-ready: ISO 5211 pad supports pneumatic and electric actuators without modification
  • Leak-tight shut-off: full-bore ball design gives bubble-tight closure and minimal pressure drop when open
  • Standards-compliant: manufactured and tested to internationally recognised design and test standards

Industries We Serve

This valve is engineered to handle the operating conditions found across these industries:

  • Water treatment & plumbing: potable water lines, pump stations and building services where corrosion resistance and long service life matter. See our water valves and plumbing valves.
  • City gas distribution (CGD/PNG): gas isolation points requiring blow-out-proof stems and tested shut-off integrity. See our CGD valves.
  • HVAC & chilled water systems: isolation and zoning valves in commercial and industrial HVAC loops. See our HVAC valves.
  • Boiler & steam utilities: steam line isolation where PTFE-sealed, low-torque operation is needed. See our boiler and steam valves.
  • Oil & fuel handling: fuel transfer and storage lines needing a corrosion-resistant shut-off valve. See our oil valves.
  • Food & beverage processing: SS 304 wetted parts suited to hygienic and washdown environments. See our food and beverage valves.

Construction & Material Highlights

The body and body tap (end piece) that contact the process fluid are manufactured from SS 304 for corrosion resistance. The ball is SS 304 in the Premium grade (PSS-5003P) and SS 202 in the Regular grade (PSS-5003R). Sealing components (ball seats, stem seat, gland packing and body gasket) use PTFE for its low friction and broad chemical compatibility. See the full material breakdown, part numbers and quantities in the material list table below.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Flush the pipeline before installation to remove weld slag or debris that could damage the ball or seats
  • Install with the valve in the fully open or fully closed position, never partially throttled for long periods, to avoid premature seat wear
  • Use matching flange gaskets (Class 150 or Class 300 as ordered) and torque bolts evenly in a cross pattern for a leak-free joint
  • Periodically operate the valve through a full cycle to keep the ball and seats free of scale build-up
  • If seal wear is noticed, depressurise and drain the line, then unbolt the body tap to replace the seats, packing and gasket. Where the pipeline cannot be separated, a 3 PC valve is the better choice

2 PC vs 3 PC Ball Valve: Which One Do You Need?

A 2 PC (two-piece) valve, like this model, has a body split into two bolted sections. It is compact, cost-effective and easy to service when the pipeline can be slightly separated. A 3 PC (three-piece) valve adds a separate centre section holding the ball, so the entire trim can be pulled out without disturbing the end connections at all, which is useful in lines that are welded or hard to realign. For flanged, boltable pipelines where periodic maintenance is expected, the 2 PC design offers the best balance of cost, footprint and serviceability. If you need zero pipework disturbance, see the SS 304 3 PC flanged ball valve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 2 PC ball valve?

A 2 PC (two-piece) ball valve has a body made of two separable parts bolted together, so the ball, seats and stem can be reached for inspection and replacement.

What is the maximum size available in this SS 304 flanged ball valve?

This model is available from 1/2" (DN15) up to 4" (DN100).

What pressure classes are available?

Class 150 and Class 300 flanged ends. At ambient temperature the approximate working pressure is 19.0 bar (275 psi) for Class 150 and 49.6 bar (720 psi) for Class 300. Please state the class when you enquire.

What temperature can this valve handle?

The PTFE seats and seals limit the service range to about -20°C to +180°C (-4°F to 356°F). Allowable working pressure reduces as temperature rises.

Is this valve suitable for steam applications?

Yes, within the PTFE seat limits. The valve is suitable for gas, air, steam, oil and water service. Share your steam pressure and temperature and our team will confirm the exact rating for your duty.

Can this valve be automated with an actuator?

Yes. It comes with an integrated ISO 5211 mounting pad, so a pneumatic or electric actuator can be fitted directly without modification.

What standards is this valve manufactured and tested to?

Design is as per BS 5351 / IS 9890 / ISO 17292, flanged ends to ASME B16.5, and testing to BS 5146 / ISO 5208 / API 598.

What is the difference between the Regular (R) and Premium (P) grades?

The body and body tap are SS 304 in both grades. The Premium grade (PSS-5003P) upgrades the ball, stem and gland nut to SS 304, while the Regular grade (PSS-5003R) uses SS 202 for these parts.

Can the internal parts be serviced without removing the valve from the pipeline?

A 2 PC valve is opened by unbolting the body tap, and some pipelines need the flanges slightly separated to do so. If you need to service the valve without disturbing the pipework at all, choose a 3 PC flanged valve.

Why choose SS 304 over brass or cast iron for this valve?

SS 304 offers significantly better corrosion resistance than brass or cast iron, making it suitable for outdoor exposure, water treatment, food-grade and mildly corrosive process lines where a longer service life is needed. For chlorides or marine duty, choose SS 316.
